What Path Will You Choose?

New players of Elite Dangerous are thrown in to the game without any direction.  There's no story to follow, you follow your own path.

What path will you choose?

Before you rush off to be a pirate or explorer or trader, you must first find your feet or rather space legs.  You are given a small ship and loaned some basic modules for it and must learn how to make credits in order to upgrade the modules and buy new ships to progress.

There are many ways to start making credits in Elite Dangerous.  I hope you find the beginners guide below useful.

Beginners Guide

Some players can get a little overwhelmed or confused when first starting to play Elite Dangerous.

This guide will help new players get a good start with the game to build up your commander and learn how everything works.

Decoding The Ancient Ruins

The next step after you have got yourself a new ship and equipped it with 12 tonnes of cargo space and a planetary vehicle hanger is to head off to Felice Dock in the Meene system.  There you will automatically be given a mission called Decoding The Ancient Ruins.  It's certainly not an easy mission for a beginner to undertake but well worth the effort as you can get up to 110 million credits for doing this one mission.

Engineers are characters in Elite Dangerous that can make modifications to almost everything you can add to your ship; hard points, utilities and internal modules.  There are some exceptions, but not many.

All engineers are located on planet surface bases therefore you need the Horizons DLC to access them.

Exploration gives players the opportunity to earn credits by using a Discovery Scanner to scan star systems and using a Planetary Surface Scanner to scan individual stars and planets.  Players can then sell the data collected at ports for credits.  If you manage to scan any stars or planets that haven't previously been scanned by anyone else you not only will get a bigger payout but also have your name (gamertag, PSN, etc) displayed on the planetary body.

There's two sides to trading;

  1. Buying and selling commodities
  2. Completing trading missions

To make the most out of trading you'll need the most cargo space you can get.
